Kessho Kannagara Aiki Gasshuku

Join Kessho Kannagara Aikido for our first annual fall gathering: a weekend of aikido practice, river purification, shared meals, and fellowship, led by Joe Melberg.
We’ll begin at Sixth House Studio on Friday evening, gather for kawa misogi at the Saline River on Saturday morning, and practice outdoors at Murray Park throughout the weekend.
Come share in the beginning of a new tradition.
Weekend schedule
Friday, October 23 — Opening
- 7–8 PM: Opening class at Sixth House Studio.
- 8:30 PM onward: Dinner together downtown.
Saturday, October 24 — Misogi & outdoor practice
- 9 AM: Kawa misogi—river purification practice. Exact meeting point to be announced.
- 11:00 AM–2 PM: Keiko at Murray Park. Pavilion/location to be announced.
- Evening: Potluck at Sixth House Studio. Time to be announced.
Sunday, October 25 — Practice & closing
- 10 AM–1:30 PM: Keiko at Murray Park.
- 1:30–2 PM: Return to Sixth House Studio.
- 2 PM: Closing ceremony, followed by an informal lunch.
This is our first gasshuku, and the schedule may change as plans develop. Outdoor activities are subject to weather and river conditions. Check this page for updates before traveling.
What to bring
Bring your training clothes, drinking water, and what you need for a day of outdoor practice. We can provide some bokken and jo but if you have your own – bring those too.
For Saturday’s misogi, bring a fundoshi and hachimaki, along with a towel and dry clothes. Further preparation and meeting details will be posted here.
For Saturday’s potluck, bring something to share.
